Aspiration at Cley 18

Cley Contemporary Art Exhibition is open – over 60 artists are exhibiting at St Margaret’s Church, Norfolk Wildlife Trust Visitor Centre and the beach.

5 July to 5 August
10 am to 5 pm

The theme for Cley 18 is “the greater the distance the clearer the view” (W G Sebald quote from ‘The Rings of Saturn’).

Andrew Schumann has chosen ‘Aspiration’ as the title of his work in a desire to achieve a demanding target which looks simple from a distance, but which becomes more daunting as it is approached. Crystal balls are the target, but the scale is misleading. From close up it is a great way up the smooth hazelwood poles to reach the glittering prize. A pair of eyes look up in horror!
