Pauline Wrighton

Textile & Mixed Media Artist

Originally from Bedfordshire, I moved to Norfolk in 1988. Having now retired from my career in teaching, I spend enjoyable time working with textile and stitch in my garden studio.

Using hand and machine stitch I create panels, hangings and accessories, using a variety of materials and techniques. Fabrics may be created from raw fibres or re-cycled materials, others hand coloured and textured, de-constructed or altered. I work intuitively, influenced largely by my surroundings, pieces often developing spontaneously, dictated by colour and texture. Organic, natural forms are a favoured conceptual source.

I have exhibited throughout Norfolk and participate annually in the Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios scheme. I am a member of West Norfolk Artists Association and a founder member of the Hindolveston Textile Group and Links Creative.

Exhibitions have included:
Eastern Open 2010 - Judges choice post card award
Fakenham Biennial 2011 and 2013
Through the Eye, Hindolveston Textile Group 2011 and 2013
WNAA Summer Exhibition 2012 - Inga Miller award
WNAA Summer Exhibition 2013 - Syd Davison award
Royal Norfolk Agricultural Show Art Exhibition 2014

As well as my teaching qualifications I hold an Open University B.A. degree and a City and Guilds Diploma in stitched textiles. Further examples of work can be seen on my website.
