Pauline Prior-Pitt writes poetry which sings of her love of the Outer Hebrides\u2026
\nIt was no surprise to find Pauline is also an artist. As we leave summer behind and enter into winter Pauline is happy for me to share two of her poems which reflect her observations of how light changes with the seasons.<\/p>\n

Summer Light<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>think of green water<\/p>\n

no, turquoise
\nthink of blue
\nmore green than blue<\/p>\n

no, more blue than green
\nbut darker
\nultramarine<\/p>\n

no, deeper turquoise
\nemerald sapphire<\/p>\n

think of them all<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>think of sand cream bays
\nwhen the tide is out
\nstreaked with shallow pools
\nreflecting silver blue<\/p>\n

no, make that milky green
\nthough milky green is more
\nwhen the tide saunters back in
\nand water from the burn
\nmingles peat brown to violet streams<\/p>\n

think bright green<\/p>\n

no, brighter
\n\"\"<\/a>a May green, like leaf buds
\nof rowan trees in spring
\nmachair headlands turning
\ndaisy white to pansy yellow
\nbuttercup to clover pink<\/p>\n

think all this together<\/p>\n

Winter Light<\/h3>\n

Think mostly muted
\nas if seen through grey veils
\nStill think abundant green, duller
\nwater-logged brown in places
\nmoss green fringed fawn<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>think cinnamon and ginger
\nthink peat brown dug deep, almost black
\nthink grey burns, grey lochs
\ngrey sea trailing white pray<\/p>\n

Then think a low down sun
\nThink peat grass glowing crimson
\non the moor<\/p>\n

think marram glossing ochre
\nover pale sand against gold water<\/p>\n

think brimming burns and lochs
\nholding ink blue light<\/p>\n
