Artist's Statement

Lydia trained at Shrewsbury College of Art and Design and University of London Goldsmiths College, graduating with a BA(Hons) Fine Art/Textiles in 1988.

Since moving from Yorkshire to Norfolk, and opening a studio in newly renovated outbuildings at her home in Docking in 2007, she is continuing with commission and exhibition work alongside running workshops and summer courses.

Her work has been widely exhibited and includes displays at Tobacco Dock, London, The Mall Galleries, The Elizabethan Gallery Wakefield, Leeds City Art Gallery, The Angel Row Gallery Nottingham, The Mercer Gallery Harrogate and St Nicholas Chapel King’s Lynn. Commissions include interpretation of a silk scarf design for the Dulwich Picture Gallery in conjunction with a children’s art competition and a portrait wall-hanging of the blues guitarist Stefan Grossman. She has also undertaken numerous residencies in schools and colleges in collaboration with Leeds Education Authority and Yorkshire and Humberside Arts and also for the West Yorkshire Playhouse during the international Music Festival.

Lydia works with dyes and pigments painting directly onto open silkscreens stretched to size and printing with a variety of media. Chance from the intentional and accidental often produce surprising results.

Lydia has now relocated to a new studio at Unit 3 Docking Rural Workshops. For further details please visit www.lydiahaines.com
