Why do I paint? It’s in the genes I suppose as I come from a creative family and loved to watch my maternal grandfather produce amazing paintings.

No technology and mobile phones in my childhood. I learnt to sew, play the piano, draw and most of all look. Sketch books are the most essential part of my life. I still carry one around just in case I get a moment to capture an idea that could be used in a painting.

Still life is a love of mine and I paint from life not photos. I also like to study people so they can be included in a painting in my studio. Also, my husband was a cricketer, so there were many wonderful days sketching the players. It doesn’t matter what medium I use, as long as I enjoy the process of a one to one with my work.

Over the years of looking, I have learnt to store images in my aged brain and love nothing better than to try and project some of them onto a canvas. It doesn’t always work but sometimes if a viewer can find the feeling that I have tried to convey, I am deeply humbled and gratified.

Once the painting bug gets you, it’s hard to shake off but I am glad I have got it as there is always that feeling that perhaps tomorrow the masterpiece that I have in my mind will somehow magically appear!
